Are you tired of trying to show students and staff why pictures from Creative Commons and Flickr are not only the right thing to use, but also much better for engaging audiences? This came up in class today, so I thought I would quickly share. I saw a student using this:
Then I showed her this:

Enough said! Ban clip art from your classroom.
This is on my mind too, but wondering what’s the first ‘this’?
Nevermind! Got it- I couldn’t see it at first.
So true! Let’s ban it from all professional development as well.
Yes. Great photos have a much better impact. I’m amazed at how few teachers know about and understand Creative Commons licenses. I think this is something we really must spend time teaching our students and our peers to use and cite properly. My 6th graders and I have had many discussions about the ethical use of digital images. Now, I need to share the message with my colleagues as well.
I have never really thought about this until now. Your example made it real for me, and I must say I would have to agree with you . I am a student in EDM310 at the University of South Alabama. We are required to post a weekly blog and add photos to that blog. I will takes your advice and use these cites digital images. The use of digital images does capture the audience in a more prolific way.
Is not the bigger question, how come Clips Art’s press agent is so darn good at getting his name and work out into people’s documents?
Very powerful and effective use of I ages to drive home the point of this post. I recently read another post about using images. (I will try and dig it up … ) the point of the post that I recall was that the type of image has a differential impact depending on the learner’s prior knowledge. For example, learners with little knowledge of a topic benefit from simple images or line drawings, whereas expects quickly learn from complex images (e.g., realistic pictures). Thus, we should also consider our audience’s level of expertise when selecting images. (Clip art would be considered lower level imagery.)
Awsome article and right to the point. I don’t know if this is truly the best place to ask but do you guys have any thoughts on where to hire some professional writers? Thank you 🙂
